Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to join the cast of Dreamworks’ The Light Between Oceans.
If she comes aboard, Weisz will share the screen with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. Derek Cianfrance, who directed Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines, is helming the film while David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford are producing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story centers on a lighthouse keeper and his wife in post-World War I Australia. The two find a baby adrift in a boat with a dead body and begin to raise the baby as their own. Little do they know, their decision will have grave repercussions.
The film’s source material, a novel by M.L. Stedman, is an international bestseller. The Wrap reported that the novel has been translated into 30 languages.
Weisz is in talks to play the lighthouse keeper’s wife. Her recent films include Oz the Great and Powerful and The Bourne Legacy. She can be next seen in The Lobster alongside Colin Farrell.
