A staff member for Pennsylvania Representative Tom Marino was arrested on Friday when it was discovered he had a gun on his person as tried to enter the U.S. House office building.
Police say that the Republican congressman's press spokesman Ryan Shucard was found to have a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol and magazine on him while going through a metal detector, Reuters reports. He was trying to go into the Cannon House Office Building.
Police quickly determined he did not have a license and arrested him on the felony charge. He is currently being processed.
Shucard, who has only been working for Marino for about two months, was also placed on unpaid leave, the representative's chief of staff, Bill Tighe, revealed, according to The Associated Press.
The press spokesman previously worked as a media relations manager for the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, notes MSNBC and also served under former Sen. Joseph Lieberman.
