In yesterday’s contest, the San Diego Padres beat the Mets 2-1. On Saturday the Padres shut out the New York Mets in a lopsided victory. The final score was Padres Six, and the Mets Zero.
The past two games have not looked so great for the Mets. Starting pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne was four outs away from pitching a no hitter, reports the Associated Press.
All-star Tyson Ross gave the Padres a huge advantage picking apart the Mets in seven shutout innings of work, according to ESPN. New York has not been used to playing bad because they were on a great stretch going into the three game weekend series against San Diego.
The Mets came into the weekend series having won eight out of the past 10 games. However, the Padres starting pitching staff put a Holt on the Mets parade the past couple of days.
Hitting is a key to all major league ball clubs, and the Mets need to swing the bats better to get on track. Consistency gives any team a chance to win, so scoring only one run in two games is not going to get the job done.
