Secret Cinema, a U.K. group that hosts elaborate events that include film screenings and recreations of scenes, angered Back to the Future fans by cancelling the first night of its most ambitious event. To make matters worse, the group offered no detailed explanation and cancelled the event less than two hours before it was set to start.
The first event was supposed to happen tonight and fans of the iconic 1985 movie were incredibly excited. However, a post just appeared on Secret Cinema’s Facebook page, cancelling it.
“Due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to receive guests at tonight's show of Secret Cinema presents Back to the Future,” the statement reads. “We are devastated to make this announcement and sincerely apologise for having to announce it at this late a stage.”
While the group is “working tirelessly to make sure that this spectacular event will go ahead tomorrow evening,” fans were understandably ticked off. People are complaining about losing money traveling to London to take part in the event and others are annoyed that they bought BTTF props and costumes to wear on a particular night. Secret Cinema appears to be doing damage control, asking each person to email them directly.
According to The Telegraph, ticket buyers were told to meet at a London train station, where they would then be directed to a secret location. The group has been hosting events since 2007 and has continued to grow, with 17,000 BTTF tickets being sold in just the first four minutes they were available.
