The Costa Concordia cruise ship made its final voyage on Wednesday away from Giglio Island’s port.
CNN reported that marine salvage crews refloated the ship last week in order to have it towed from the island to the port of Genoa where it will be unassembled.
A time-lapse video shows crews getting the ship ready for its last voyage.
The Associated Press noted that two tugs were assigned to tow the ship on its four-day journey to Costa Crociere Spa. The massive 114,500-ton vessel will be scrapped there.
Back on January 13, 2012, the Costa Concordia hit a rock on a reef in the Tyrrhenian Sea on the western coast of Italy. The contact tore a gash in the ship and flooded parts of the engine room, causing power outages.
The cruise ship was under the command of Captain Francesco Schettino, who did not order an abandon ship until an hour after the impact. Schettino has been accused of not ordering an evacuation until it was too late to lower some lifeboats.
A total of 32 people lost their lives in the tragedy.
