The Billboard 200 album chart for this past week is probably not going to make any music executive happy. Singer/songwriter Sia and her fans are probably happy, though, since her new album topped the chart.
However, 1000 Forms of Fear only needed 52,000 copies to top the chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan data provided to Billboard.
It is surprising that the album did well, since she took a different route to promote the album and the single “Chandelier.” While she did the usual talk show circuit, making appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she performed with her back to the camera as dancers moved to the song.
Fear earned Sia’s best debut and sales week. Some People Have Regal Problems hit No. 26 in 2008 and We Are Born reached No. 37 in 2010.
Billboard notes that this is the worst-selling No. 1 album since Zac Brown Band’s Uncaged needed just 48,000 copies sold to top the Aug. 11, 2012 chart.
The Frozen soundtrack jumped to No .2 with 46,000 copies. Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (42,000) and Ed Sheeran’s X (35,000) to Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. Trey Songz’s Trigga, which sold a respectable 105,000 copies on last week’s chart, dropped to No. 5 with only 34,000 copies.
The rest of the Top 10 is: Judas Priest’s Redeemer of Souls (33,000); Now 50 (22,000); Dirty Heads’ Sound of Change (21,000); Platinum by Miranda Lambert (20,000); and Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence (18,000).
Magic’s “Rude” topped the Digital Songs chart with 185,000 downloads.
