Target Stores ask customers not to bring firearms into their stores.

In a memo written by CEO, John Mulligan and posted on their website, the Target Corporation has requested that customers do not bring firearms into their stores.

"Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," the memo states.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the request came after photographs of a Texas gun-rights group were posted of their members carrying rifles through the aisles of Target stores near Dallas.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a gun-control organization funded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, then launched a campaign asking Target to disallow guns in their stores. They collected almost 400,000 signatures on their petition.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) called the actions of the Texas gun-rights groups irresponsible and "not neighborly." However, the NRA later took back their comments and apologized for scolding the group.

USA Today reports that while some applauded the decision, many were not too happy, leaving angry comments on the stores announcement website.

"This is just to shut up the anti gunners," Kory Watkins commented. "Going back to Target with my gun today and tomorrow and whatever days I want."

"They didn't ban guns. We will still carry," Adam Cook commented. "You didn't get your way. Have a nice day."

The Moms Demand Action group has successfully changed gun policies in stores including Sonic, Starbucks, Chipotle, Chili's and Jack in the Box.
