The Coeur d’Alene tribe has decided to cancel rocker Ted Nugent’s upcoming show at their casino in Idaho due to his controversial and racist views, the tribe said Monday.
Nugent was supposed to perform at the Worley, Idaho casino on Aug. 4, reports the Associated Press. However, the tribe ultimately decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea, citing the singer’s “racist and hate-filled remarks.”
Of course, the first question is, why did they schedule Nugent in the first place? It isn’t exactly like Nugent has kept quiet about his controversial ideas.
Heather Keen, a spokeswoman for the tribe, told Spokesman.com that the Tribal Council didn’t know that the casino booked him. Then, Laura Stensgar, the casino’s executive director of marketing, said in a statement that they were not aware of Nugent’s beliefs and apologized for scheduling him in the first place.
“Unfortunately, when we booked him, we were looking at him from an entertainment perspective, as an ’80s rock ’n’ roller who we thought folks might enjoy,” Stensgar explained. “We take the comments and concerns of our community very seriously and we apologize to anyone who was offended by the idea that we would promote these kinds of attitudes. We will do our best to avoid such mistakes moving forward.”
The Tribe has also said that they do not agree with Nugent’s views.
Nugent and his team have not commented on the situation.
