Authorities have said that a teenager died while he was trying to rescue his younger brother at Wildwood Falls in Oregon on Tuesday.
According to the Associated Press, the 16-year-old drowned after he tried to save his little brother who had slipped on some rocks near the top of the falls. His younger brother survived.
Witnesses have said that when the older brother went to help his sibling they both ended up going down a narrow chute of water.
The younger boy resurfaced, but the older one did not. Rescuers Divers later recovered his body.
So far, police have not released the name of the deceased or his brother.
KOIN 6 noted that the Lane County Medical Examiner will investigate the cause and manner of the teen’s death.
Wildwood Falls is a swimming hole and waterfall located in Dorena. The falls are about 20ft. and pour off a rock ridge into a large swimming hole. The popular destination is located about 45 minutes outside of Eugene.
