TNT has found its niche, which is providing drama-starved audiences with new shows during the summer. The Last Ship has been a breakout hit, while Major Crimes and Falling Skies continue to draw viewers. Today, the network announced that all three will be back next year.
The Last Ship is an action-packed series that counts Transformers director Michael Bay among its executive producers. The show started off with strong ratings, premiering last month with 5.3 million viewers. Since then, the show has averaged 7.2 million viewers in Live 7 data.
Eric Dane stars in the series as the captain of a Navy destroyer that has survived a tragedy that nearly wiped out the rest of the world’s population. Adam Baldwin and Rhona Mitra are among the co-stars. The show’s second season will include 13 episodes.
Major Crimes, a spin-off from The closer, will earn a fourth season with 15 episodes. The show has grown over the years and is now averaging 7 million viewers in Live 7 data.
Finally, Falling Skies will conclude its run with a 10-episode, fifth season. The show averages 5.5 million viewers in Life 7 data.
“The Last Ship has become this summer's top drama among key adult demos with its epic scale and visceral storytelling,” Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), said in a statement. “Major Crimes continues to be one of the most enduring and popular crime-drama franchises on television. And Falling Skies has begun an ambitious and thrilling story arc this summer as it sets the stage for next year's climactic final season.”
