The box office this weekend features, comedies, dramas, thrillers and adventure films. Two of them showcase people with exceptional powers. While one of these people is considered a demi-god, the other is a regular woman who accidentally gains power from her assailants. In the new retelling of a classical Greek myth, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson takes on a role made famous by Kevin Sorbo.
A man with the strength of a god may be the only hope for a war-laden nation in Hercules. In the PG-13 adventure, the king of Thrace and his daughter call on the fierce warrior turned mercenary to take out the evil warlord that plagues their kingdom. The one hour and thirty-eight minute film stars Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane and Joseph Fiennes. It’s playing in standard, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters.

A woman wakes up to find that drugs were implanted in her stomach in Lucy. Forced to be a drug mule, she seeks vengeance on her captors and discovers that she has the ability to use her brain in ways no one has ever seen before. Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman star in the one hour and twenty-nine minute thriller. The film is rated R for violence and sex.

An angry, insensitive man’s life changes when his granddaughter he didn’t know about moves in in And So It Goes. Despite accepting the child into his home, he hands her off to his kind neighbor to take care of. The young girl brings the seemingly different neighbors together. The PG-13 comedy stars Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton. It’s plays for one hour and thirty-four minutes.

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in A Most Wanted Man. In the dramatic thriller, the true identity of a half-Russian, half-Chechen man who shows up in Hamburg, Germany is put into question. With ties to the local Islamic community, both German and American authorities keep an eye on him to see whether or not he’s a terrorist. The two hour and one minute limited released film is based on John le Carré's novel and costars Rachael McAdams, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe. It’s rated R for language.

Two married men look to bring the spark back into their relationships with their wives in My Man is a Loser. They enlist the help of their single friend who is known to have a way with the ladies. With his coaching, they reinvent themselves, but is that really what their wives want? Michael Rapaport, Bryan Callen, Tika Sumpter, and John Stamos star in the The limited released comedy. The one hour and thirty-five minute film is rated R for language, sex and nudity.

Two best friends set a goal to lose their virginity by the end of the summer in Very Good Girls. They meet a young artist at the beach and both vie for his attention. With their eyes on the same guy, it’s no wonder that their relationship is strained when one starts dating him in secret. The coming of age film stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen. The drama unfolds in one hour and thirty-one minutes. The limited released film is rated R for language and sex.

A magician tries to prove that a spiritual medium is a fraud in Magic in the Moonlight. As he investigates and tries to catch her deceiving people, he begins to question his own principles and believe. The PG-13 comedic drama is written and directed by Woody Allen and stars Emma Stone, Colin Firth and Marcia Gay Harden. It’s playing in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-seven minutes.

After breaking up with her boyfriend, a young woman moves to Chicago to stay with her brother and his family in Happy Christmas. Her lack of responsibility and partying ways become a nuisance for the young family. She stirs up a change in the life of her sister-in-law. Anna Kendrick stars in the one hour and eighteen minute comedy. The limited released film is rated R for language, drugs and sex.

A survivor for the Great Siege of Rochester Castle forms an army to protect his family’s castle from the Celtics in Ironclad: Battle for Blood. The Celtic raiders are on the attack, seeking revenge for the death of their commander’s son. The unrated adventure film is running in limited theaters for one hour and forty-eight minutes.

The PG-13 film features never before seen footage from his shows and travels. The comedic documentary is playing in limited theaters for one hour and forty-one minutes.

Audiences get a peek into the comedy world this week with The Fluffy Project, but next week, music is the focus with the release of the James Brown biopic, Get On Up. Another film hitting theaters on August 1 is the adventure Guardians of the Galaxy.
