Officials say that they received a call about the fire around the West Side museum before 11:30 a.m..
Spokesperson Luke Sacks said that the fire broke out after two employees were making repairs to an outside power supply, according to NBC. Sacks said that the injuries were minor. A volunteer who was close to them was also hurt.
The people who were injured in the incident suffered burns to their arms. As a precautionary measure, one of the employees and the volunteer were brought to the hospital. They were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, according to CBS.
Con Edison stated that the electrical equipment in question belongs to the Intrepid. The museum was already closed due to the power outages that workers were in the process of repairing. The museum is scheduled to remain closed for the rest of the day.
