Another casino in the New Jersey gambling town of Atlantic City is expected to close in mid-September.
According to the Associated Press, Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino could become the latest gaming hall to close its doors. Although Trump Entertainment Resorts said that no final decision has been made, the company expects the casino to close on Sept. 16. Warning letters of the possible closure will be sent out Monday to the more than 1,000 Trump Plaza employees.
The closure of large casinos in the city known as “America’s Playground” just keeps adding up.
In January, Atlantic Club Casino Hotel closed down after 33 years in operation. And just last month, Showboat Atlantic City announced that it will close on Aug. 31. Add that to Revel Casino Hotel, which also announced that it will shut its doors this summer if a buyer is not found.
A few factors have contributed to the recent casino casualties. One, is the competition from regional casinos, which have become so popular and challenged major destination casinos to stay afloat.
Another factor has been the unstable economy, which has people spending less money at the resorts.
If Trump Plaza does in fact close in September and no buyer is found for Revel, the number of gaming halls left in AC will stand at eight.
