In case you needed more of a reason to fully charge your cell-phone or laptop before an international flight - as July 2nd, The Transportation Security Administration announced that travelers might need to demonstrate that their devices are able to turn on before boarding a direct flight to the United States.
The new regulation was not created to inhibit possible communication between terrorists, but actually to prevent cell-phones, and similar devices laced with explosives from making their way onto commercial flights.
According to ABC News , this new age smuggling practice has become a “deepening concern,” over the past couple of weeks, specifically targeting “terrorists in war-ravaged Syria.”
In addition to the already established practice of removing devices from carry-ons for screening, officers may now ask you to prove that your cell phone or laptop turn on. In their press release, The TSA states that “powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.” The TSA gives further warning that “the traveler may also undergo additional screening.”
