Two former Utah attorneys general were arrested on Tuesday morning by the FBI on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from bribery allegations.

Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow were dropped off at the Salt Lake County Jail early in the morning over charges that stretched as far back as 2009, the Deseret News reports.

Shurtleff is facing both felony and misdemeanor charges, including one count of unlawful activity, three counts of receiving or soliciting bribes by a public official, two counts of witness tampering, improper use of an employee's position, tampering with evidence and two additional counts of obstruction of justice.

Swallow was hit with only four felony charges, including pattern of unlawful activity, illegally accepting bribes and two counts of receiving bribes by a public official.

According to The Associated Press, the two have been under investigation for 14 months over their alleged relationships with businessmen already being probed by regulators.

Shurtleff resigned early in 2013, while Swallow followed in his predecessor's footsteps after less than a year in office.

Both have denied they are guilty of any wrongdoing, with Shurtleff threatening to fight any charges brought against him.
