Two police officers were shot and injured on Saturday night during a welfare check at a residence outside of Denver.
According to KDVR, the Lakewood authorities responded to the home around 10 p.m. to check on a man at the request of his wife.
The man threatened violence if police showed and when they did he came outside and opened fire on them.
The Associated Press reported that the two police officers, one male and one female, then returned fire and wounded the gunman.
All three were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lakewood police spokesman Sgt. Randy McNitt.
Law enforcement officials said the minor injuries to the responding officers can be attributed to their bullet-proof vest.
The suspect was taken into custody and police took the rest of the evening investigating the incident.
Lakewood is located in Jefferson County about 15 minutes outside of Denver. It is currently home to more than 140,000 residents making it the fifth most populous city in the State of Colorado.
