A metal band of three eighth-graders has just gotten a record deal from Sony. The band, called Unlocking the Truth and formed by the trio of Malcolm Brickhouse, Alec Atkins, and Jarad Dawkins has made the deal with Sony for two albums and possibly four should they be optioned.

Created in Brooklyn, New York, the band was originally formed by guitarist Brickhouse, who is now 13, and drummer Dawkins who is 12.Eventually realizing a bass player would add to the band, they invited their long-time best friend Atkins to join, despite the fact that he had never played the bass before as reported on Unlocking the Truth’s website.

Since then, the band has played a variety of exciting venues, with an appearance at Coachella, and touring the country with Vans Warped Tour according to the New York Daily News.

This deal is the next exciting thing on their docket. The trio received $60,000 advance from Sony for their first recording, and if the label should choose to support the boys through all six of their potential albums then the group has a chance of earning $1.7 million.

Speaking of the deal, Jarad’s mother Tabatha Dawkins told the New York Daily News that, “It’s so exciting. We’re jumping over the moon. What started out as play dates went to Times Square and now this. It’s been one great thing after another.”
