‘Weird Al’ Yankovic certainly knows how to promote an album. The iconic parodist has been unleashing one new video a day this week to promote his new album, Mandatory Fun. On Friday, Yankovic unleashed “Sports Song,” which doesn’t make fun of any particular pop hit, but holds up a mirror to American sport culture.
Yankovic posted the video on Funny or Die. It features the singer leading a marching band on a high school football field and singing about how we are going to destroy another team, figuratively of course. Yankovic does get one thing right. Sports fans are essentially at games to yell “You suck!” to their hated rivals.
On Thursday, Yankovic’s video was his parody of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” called “Handy.” The video was posted on Yahoo! Screen and puts “Fancy” in a Home Improvement world.
Before “Handy” was “Foil,” his parody of Lorde’s hit “Royals.”
Yankovic also took on grammar in “Word Crimes,” a riff on “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke.
And, because we can’t get enough, there was “Tacky,” Yankovic’s star-studded version of Pharrell’s “Happy.” That video was posted on The Nerdist and began the epic week for Yankovic and his fans.
