Wildfires are still ablaze in Washington; officials report that at least 300 homes have been destroyed from the flames and that thousands of acres have been consumed.
According to USA Today, a sheriff from Okanogan County drove 750 miles around the damaged Carlton Complex and described it as dark areas that resemble the moon. He also found that his original estimate of 150 homes being demolished turned into 300 homes. The fire near Leavenworth fire has claimed over 12,000 acres of land and is still far from being contained. The Mills Canyon fire, however, is mostly contained and has taken over 22,000 acres of land.
The Carlton Complex fire, the largest wildfire that Washington has ever had, is now over 50 percent contained largely due to rainfall.
Despite the ongoing disaster, several people from Winthrop, Twisp, and Pateros were pleased today after finding that their electricity would finally be restored, NBC News noted.
Officials were glad that the rain helped contain the fire, but feared that lightning from the rain may cause additional wildfires to flare.
