WWE superstar John Cena has recently been cast to star in The Nest, a new comedy written by Saturday Night Live writer Paula Pell and starring Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, James Brolin, Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph, and John Leguizamo.
According to Deadline, the film – which will be helmed by Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore and produced by Fey’s Little Stranger, Inc. – reunites Fey and Poehler as a a pair of sisters who decide to throw a house party in their parents' home before selling it. While Universal has not given any hints of Cena’s potential role, Deadline reported rumors that John Cena will actually be playing the villain of the film, rather than adhering to his good guy persona that Cena has both inside and outside the ring.
According to Cinema Blend, the film also features Shameless's Madison Davenport as Fey’s character’s daughter, while James Brolin will play Poehler and Fey’s father, and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph will play the two’s childhood friend.
Cena has mainly played hero figures in his past film exploits, including The Marine, 12 Rounds, and Legendary. He is currently working on a Judd Apatow film, called Trainwreck, alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Tilda Swinton.
The Nest is slated to release on December 18th, 2015.
