There is one team in the American League that the New York Yankees just absolutely love seeing: The Minnesota Twins. From the time Joe Torre took over in 1996, the Twins seem to be the perfect medicine for the Yanks every time they hit the skids.
Last night the Yankees defeated the Twins 6-5 in Minnesota, according to MLB.com. This marks the second-straight win for New York after losing five in a row, which also puts them back over .500 on the season (43-42). The Yanks are now 15-3 at Target Field since it opened.
Yankees second-baseman Brian Roberts was the star of the game with four-extra base hits, three-doubles and a triple. He raised his batting average an incredible 11 points last night.
"Hitting is contagious. I think it goes both ways. When a couple guys start struggling, sometimes everybody starts struggling. A couple guys start hitting, it can kind of roll. So hopefully we'll fall in that direction,” Roberts said after the game, according to CBSSports.com.
New York took a 6-1 lead after the top of the second-inning was done, but starter Chase Whitley struggled through three-innings and gave up four-runs and eight-hits in total. No matter though as the strongest part of the Yankees team this season, the bullpen, came through once again.
David Huff earned the victory as he pitched three-innings of no-hit ball. Adam Warren, Dellin Betances and David Robertson finished off the Twins only allowing one-run (Betances in the eighth-inning).
New York will look for their third-straight win today as David Phelps heads to the mound.
