Director of the last four Harry Pottermovies, David Yates, has been chosen to direct the movie version of J.K Rowling’s other book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Yates is still in talks with Warner Brothers to seal the deal on directing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, according to http://variety.com/2014/film/news/harry-potter-director-to-return-for-fantastic-beasts-spinoff-exclusive-1201286193/>Variety. Warner Brothers is yet to make a comment on the news.
Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them is a spinoff of the Harry Potter series. The book will be made into a trilogy of movies following magizoologist Newt Scamandar who is the author of the Fantastic Beasts textbook, according to TheCelebrityCafe.com.
The movie is set to take place a century before the Harry Potter stories.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the ‘Harry Potter’ series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling revealed on her Facebook page.
“The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the ‘Harry Potter’ books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.”
J.K. Rowling will be writing the screenplay for the films David Yates is directing. Yates also directed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, according to his .
