A homeless man was fatally shot in the head by a 12-year-old boy who was arrested and accused of the June 28 murder on Thursday.

The murder of 54-year-old Thomas Trent was caught on a surveillance video on. The boy, identified as Sharron Sherman Townsend, was also identified on the video, reported the Associated Press.

The boy was accompanied by a 16-year-old boy at the time of the murder. The 16-year-old confessed to being there at the time of the murder, but was jailed on unrelated charges. Around the time of the murder, both boys were seen walking near the vacant business building where Trent was found.

Though Trent was homeless, he had family in the same town. Trent’s sister, Dawn McNabb was shocked to learn about the death of her brother, reported First Coast News.

“Why was a child out, why would that child think ok to kill somebody, take some body's life? He did not do nothing to him that's wrong, just wrong,” said McNabb.

McNabb also said that her brother had no weapon on him, but “maybe a pocket knife” she gave him for his birthday.

Trent was released from the hospital before the murder. McNabb said he suffered from health problems related to alcoholism.
