ABC Family has pulled the plug on Twisted, the controversial teen drama about a high school student accused of murder. The show got off to a strong start in the ratings, but the audience slowly evaporated as the freshman season wore on.

Twisted debuted back in March 2013 and won the slot on Monday nights after ABC Family’s flagship drama Pretty Little Liars. As TheWrap notes, the show did get 1.5 million viewers for the premiere but the audience dropped to a third of that by the time the finale aired on April 1. The show’s 19-episode run was cut in half.

The series was created by Adam Milch and found Avan Jogia as a 16-year-old boy who returns home years after he was accused of murdering a family member. Other members of the cast included Denise Richards, Maddie Hasson, Sam Robards, Kimberly Quinn and Sam Robards.

This afternoon’s news was more like a formality, since Jogia has already found his next role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he scored a role in Spike TV’s Tut series last week with Ben Kingsley.

ABC Family had a busy Wednesday. They also renewed Switched at Birth earlier in the day. Pretty Little Liars was also renewed for two more seasons in June.
