ABC Family said on Wednesday that it has renewed Switched at Birth for a fourth season. The show has been met with critical acclaim and has even picked up a few awards.
The series centers on two teenage girls who learn that they were switched at birth by the hospital, growing up in two very different socio-economic circumstances and with different cultures. Now that they have met their real parents, they try to blend their lives.
“Fans will be clamoring for season four and to know what happens with Daphne and Bay after the season three finale next week,” ABC Family president Tom Ascheim said in a statement posted at Zap2It.
Katie Leclerc and Vanessa Marano star in the series, along with Constance Marie, D.W. Moffett and Lea Thompson.
The show has picked up a Peabody Award and TV Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming. It also received the George Sunga Award and a Gracie Award from the Producers Guild of America.
Lizzy Weiss and Paul Stupin at Switched at Birth’s executive producers. Weiss shared her excitement for today’s news on Twitter and thanked the network for picking up the show.
