The first appearance of Superman, Action Comics No. 1, sold at auction on Monday for a whopping $3.2 million.
The winning bid was made by Stephen Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo, who are New York comic dealers. "It's hard to believe that a kid's 10-cent comic could be worth that much money, but it is Superman," Fishler said, The Associated Press reports. "It's the first time anybody saw what a superhero was like."
Action Comics No. 1 debute back in 1938 and marked the very first appearance of Superman, and in it, the superhero's background and alter ego is detailed.
The two auction winners, who own ComicConnect.com, admitted they don't have any exact plans yet for their newly won comic, but noted, "It was too good an opportunity to pass up."
The 9.0 CGC-rated comic went up for bid two weeks ago and after just a day on eBay shot up to $1.65 million after starting at $1 million.
The comic was put up for auction by Pristine Comics owner Darren Adams, who plans to donate some of the winnings to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
Only two Action Comics No. 1 that have been sold were rated a 9.0. The other one was owned by Nicolas Cage for awhile, before he eventually sold it for $2.16 million back in 2011.
