Aerosmith had to suddenly cancel a show in California last night, just hours before they were supposed to take the stage. While the group didn’t say anything officially, it has been reported that drummer Joey Kramer may have fallen ill.
A statement on the group’s website only noted that the cancellation was “due to an illness.” They were supposed to perform at the Concord Pavillion in Concord, California. Refunds were made available for fans.
The group, behind hits like “Dream On,” “Walk This Way” and “Rag Doll,” did not say if any other tour dates would be cancelled, but TMZ seems to think that there will be more. The site’s sources say that Kramer, 63, is suffering from heart complications and will need surgery. Members of the group’s team has already been told that Sunday’s show in Washington state will be cancelled.
Rolling Stone points out that health problems are nothing new for the rock group. Bassist Tom Hamilton, rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford and frontman Steven Tyler have all had health scares in recent years that have resulted in cancelled dates or rescheduled shows.
The future of the band is also up in the air, especially since their last record, 2012’s Music from Another Dimension, flopped. In a May interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Joe Perry said that the group’s record deal with Sony was completed and suggested that EPs might be the way of the future for Aerosmith.
