Amanda Curtis was chosen to represent Democrats in the upcoming senate race in Montana after Sen. John Walsh pulled out following plagiarism accusations.
The Montana Democratic Party picked the first term lawmaker during a vote among delegates on Saturday, NBCMontana reports. The Butte teacher won in a vote 82-48 over Dirk Adams.
"There's no better place to be than America, and there's no better state to be than Montana," Curtis said ahead of the vote. "But America is breaking its promises."
Curtis is now tasked with rebuilding the Democratic campaign ahead of the fall ballot where she will go against first term Rep. Steve Daines.
Walsh announced last week he would be dropping his re-election bid after the New York Times accused the senator of plagiarism on a college research paper he wrote back in 2007.
The Montana Democrat said he was instead set to focus on finishing out his current term strong for his constituents.
The NY Times published an article outlining all the various instances of plagiarism that was in Walsh's paper he wrote as he worked towards a masters degree at the United States Army War College.
