Amazon is not accepting pre-orders of upcoming Disney Blu-ray and DVD titles such as Maleficent and Captain America 2. This leads to a dispute between Disney and Amazon.
According to The Wall Street Journal Disney is the latest to feel the sting of Seattle's retailer company. A similar tactic was used by Amazon over e-book pricing during a 4 month war with Hachette Book Group. To convey its point, Amazon decided suspend pre-orders for hardcopies of several Hachette titles, and even increased shipping time and compared discounts with other copies.
Amazon continues to be a dominant player for books and media in the e-commerce market. Sucharita Mulpuru, a Forrester Researcher analyst said, "It's rare in physical retail to have contract disputes become so public. Most retailers just aren't willing to hurt themselves by cutting off sales. Amazon has demonstrated that they're not going to be the one to blink in these negotiations."
Market Watch notes that the trade publication said that Amazon also halted some preorders early this year. This took place during negotiations for a new deal with Disney. None of the companies could be reached out for comment.
As for the book publisher Hachette, Amazon is to set majority of e-book prices at $9.99 from the high prices of $12.99 and $14.99.
