Amazon is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to acquire streaming site Twitch for $1.1 billion, managing to beat out earlier suitor YouTube.

Back in May, it appeared like YouTube, or essentially Google, would be purchasing the streaming site, which is popular in the video game community, with sources even claiming then that the deal was imminent, but then it simply fell through.

Well now it appears that Amazon is set to be snatched up by online retailer Amazon instead, according to The Information, who was the first to report on the acquisition.

While the source who spoke exclusively with the site could not confirm whether the deal had already been signed, a person familiar with the deal spoke with Bloomberg and said the purchase could be announced quite soon, and could even come at some point Monday.

Buying up Twitch would be the largest ever move for Amazon, which has started trying to find ways to court gamers and dip into a lucrative entertainment field. The online retailer's purchase of Zappos five years ago for $817.3 million previously stood as the largest for the Seattle-based company.

According to The New York Times, Twitch averages more than 55 million unique visitors every month and more than 1.1 million users currently stream through the site.
