The fourth season of AMC's Hell on Wheels premiered Saturday night in the ratings even with season three's debut.

After struggling with poor ratings for freshman series Halt and Catch Fire, Hell's numbers must have looked pretty good to the network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 2.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the initial telecast and averaged 3.6 million viewers in live+three day ratings.

Saturday is not an easy night, which is why so few networks ever schedule any original content, but the Anson Mount starring series has done well there and the fourth season premiere returned to a 5 percent bump in ratings.

"We saw a strategic opportunity for Hell on Wheels on the toughest night of the week for TV and now the show has grown over two years in a row in this new slot," Charlie Collier, AMC head, said in a statement.

Deadline reports the show has done well in the Saturday night spot, with the previous season averaging 3.3 million viewers in live+3 day. The show has managed to hold fairly steady after improving upon season two's ratings. The third season finale was even with the two most recent premiere episodes as well.
