A U.S. teenager and her boyfriend are being held in Bali, Indonesia, after officials say that the body of the teen’s mother was found stuffed in a suitcase.
According to CNN, Heather Mack and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Tommy Schaefer, were arrested by police after the gruesome discovery was made at the upscale St. Regis Bali Resort.
The Jakarta Post reported that the body of Sheila Weise Mack, 62, was found Tuesday afternoon stuffed in luggage and the couple was being sought, before they were actually apprehended.
“When we opened the suitcase we were really surprised as we found a dead body. There was blood and wounds to her forehead,” said South Kuta Police chief Comr. Gede Redastra.
It appeared that the deceased, who was staying at the hotel with her daughter and Schaefer, had put up a struggle before her death. However, authorities are still waiting on forensic evidence to determine the exact time and manner in which she died.
The duo was arrested in connection with the death after they left the suitcase in a taxi. They were later located sleeping at a hotel in the area of Legian.
