The Boston Red Sox earned a road victory against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The final score was Red Sox two and the Cardinals one.

After being picked up from St. Louis last week, Joe Kelly made his Red Sox debut against his former ball club, as proven by NESN.com.

It was a pitchers’ duel going into the ninth inning. The game was tied at one run a peace. However, Xander Bogaerts drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Bogaerts drove in both runs for the Red Sox in the game.

Joe Kelly addressed reports after the game to discuss his debut with his new team.

“I just wanted to go out there and pitch as best as I can,” Kelly stated. “When we got ahead and fell behind 1-0 or 2-1 (in the count), we put an emphasis on throwing the breaking ball and the changeup. They were both good pitches. I think mixing in pitches like that is going to be going to be huge for me.”

Even with a victory on Wednesday, the Red Sox are still in last place in the American League Eastern Division. According to MLB.com, they are 14 games out of first place.

They are on pace to be the only team in MLB history to go from being in last place in 2012, to first place in 2013, while capturing the World Series, and then back to last place in 2014.
