Charli XCX announced on Monday her sophomore album Sucker will be out in October and dropped single "Break the Rules" off it.

The upcoming album will be available starting on Oct. 21, according to Buzzfeed, who was the first to stream the new single.

"[Break the Rules] is inspired by a lot of things I was listening to whilst in Sweden at the end of last year," Charli explained. "I spent about a month making a punk record and covering songs by Swedish punk bands like Snuffed By The Yakuza and stuff."

The song was then conceived after "I came out the other side of that punk phase and translated it into something more pop. Obviously, it's about not giving a f--k."

That sentiment is quite obvious while listening to the song (below), which features a chorus with lyrics like "I don't wanna go to school/I just wanna break the rules."

The song is more similar to "You (Ha Hah Ha)" and "I Love It," from her first album True Romance, rather than "Boom Clap," which became a hit after appearing on The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack, Billboard reports.

"Boom Clap" has been a mainstay on the music charts this summer, managing to slip into the Top 10 after nearly three months.
