We are getting a second Clint Eastwood movie this year. After the disappointment of Jersey Boys this summer, the Hollywood legend will be back in theaters with American Sniper, the story of the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Bradley Cooper, who has been hoping to make this film since before Kyle was killed, stars as Kyle.
The film’s release date was one of the changes Warner Bros. made to its schedule on Tuesday. According to Box Office Mojo, American Sniper will open on Christmas Day. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. with Henry Cavill was switched from January 2015 to Aug. 14, 2015. The Point Break remake was rescheduled from Aug. 7 ,2015 to July 31, 2015.
American Sniper has been a passion project for Cooper and is based on Kyle’s best-selling novel. Kyle was one of the top snipers in the Navy, but was killed in February 2013 at a Texas gun range by a fellow veteran he was trying to help.
Sienna Miller also stars in the film.
It is not likely that we would be getting this movie so soon had Steven Spielberg made it. He was once attached to the movie before dropping out in August 2013. Eastwood, a director known for working incredibly quickly, then entered the picture.
Eastwood took a side-trip to musicals with Jersey Boys this summer. The film was met with a mixed response and only grossed $58.7 million worldwide.
As for Cooper, he recently voiced Rocket Raccoon for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
