Des Hague, the CEO of sports catering giant Centerplate, was caught on tape abusing a friend’s dog in an elevator. The company is now doing an internal investigation and said that Hague is seeking counseling.
The incident occurred last month in a Vancouver apartment building, but was just made public. It shows Hague kicking the dog and yanking its leash. According to ESPN, Centerplate called it a private matter, but made it clear that it does not condone animal abuse.
“Mr. Hague has agreed to attend counseling to address his anger management issues and has publicly expressed he is deeply ashamed and remorseful for his behavior,” the company said in a statement. “He has apologized to everyone directly involved as well as to the company's clients and employees, and has pledged a significant, personal, multiyear financial commitment to help support the protection and safety of animals.”
Centerplate caters at nine NFL venues, including the stadiums where the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers play. ABC7 in Denver did confirm that the company does concessions at the Broncos’ Sports Authority Field. They also cater at the Colorado Convention Center.
Centerplate handles concessions at over 300 venues and employs 30,000 people.
The 49ers released a statement saying that they will continue to work with Centerplate, since they believe Hague’s “actions are not reflective of the efforts and service provided by the hundreds of Centerplate employees working to present our fans with a tremendous experience at Levi's Stadium.”
