Emory University Hospital in Atlanta will be treating an American patient who contracted the Ebola virus. The patient’s name is undisclosed.
The victim of this fatal disease will remain in a containment facility designed by the hospital and the CDC for victims of infectious diseases, according to the Washington Post.
Dr. Sujatha Reddy, a medical consultant, assures patients of the hospital and others concerned in Atlanta that they need not worry. “The containment facility is separate from all other patient areas, they have a separate staff, so no one should be worried about going to Emory Hospital,” Reddy told USA Today.
Reddy also addressed the concern of contraction. “In the reality, it’s not that contagious. It requires body fluid interaction.” Still, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns travelers against unnecessary trips to Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
As of now, the disease has no treatment or cure, but extensive vaccine research is underway. Scientists are hopeful that human trials of a vaccine could begin next month.
