So, you’ve got a copy of Lorde’s Pure Heroine and you can’t figure out another use for “Royals.” If you are farmer Derek Killenberg, the solution is to teach yourself how to play the song on a trombone and play it to call the cows home.
In a video posted in his YouTube profile, Killenberg scored a viral hit with his unique cover of the New Zealand singer’s single. In it, he performs the song with the trombone and, bizarrely enough, the cows come towards him. As the song continues, more and more of his cows come towards him. It even looks like the cows are swinging their tails in tune.
By the time he finishes the song, his cows are mere feet away from him.
The video has already racked up over 1.8 million views. Of course, that’s nothing compared to the actual “Royals” video, which has over 317 million views. (For the record, Weird Al Yankovic’s “Foil” has 14 million views.)
It turns out that Killenberg has posted other bizarre videos that combine pop hits with farming, but none have been as huge hits as his “Royals” video. For example, he’s had a parody of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” up since April and that only has 62,000 views. It just goes to show that you never really know what will go viral and what won’t.
