If you don’t want to see Fifty Shades of Grey on Valentine's Day and would prefer to check out a new comic book movie, 20th Century Fox has you covered. The studio announced this afternoon that Kingsman: The Secret Service, based on the book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, will be released on Feb. 13, 2015.
Kingsman has a handful of acclaimed British stars and is fronted by Oscar winner Colin Firth. As we previously noted when the trailer came out in May, the film also counts Michael Caine, Mark Strong and Taron Egerton as members of the cast.
The film was originally supposed to be out on Oct. 24. However, Fox must have decided that three’s a crowd. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the studio also has David Fincher’s highly anticipated Gone Girl and the Guillermo Del Toro animated production The Book of Life opening that month.
Universal’s Fifty Shades and Kingsman are currently the only films scheduled for the Valentine’s Day weekend. Interestingly, THR reports that early audience tests by Fox showed that Kingsman did well with women, so it will be interesting to see who wins that box office battle.
