The convicted Fort Hood shooter, Nidal Hasan, wrote a letter to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdad, telling him that he would like to join the caliphate.
According to Fox News, in the undated letter two page letter, Hasan wrote that joining the caliphate as a citizen would be honorable. The letter comes just days after two Americans reportedly died while fighting for ISIS in Syria.
“It would be an honor for any believer to be an obedient citizen soldier to a people and its leader who don't compromise the religion of All-Mighty Allah to get along with the disbelievers,” Hasan wrote.
John Galligan, Hasan’s attorney, said the letter reflected just how much the “religious zeal” drove his life. Hasan concluded his letter with his signature and SoA, which is the abbreviation of Solder of Allah.
Hasan is currently on death row after the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood which left 13 people dead and at least 30 injured. During the time of the shooting, he was an Army psychiatrist and Army major. During his trial, Hasan served as his own attorney after he refused any defense, reported CNN.
The man reportedly committed the shooting because he did not want to be deployed to Afghanistan where he would fight other Muslims.
