Fraiser alum David Hyde Pierce is returning to television for a major role on the Golden Globe-winning series The Good Wife.
Pierce landed a major recurring role in the upcoming sixth season of the popular CBS television series. His appearance on The Good Wife will mark his return to television for the first time since Frasier ended its run a decade ago.
He has been tabbed to play a highly respected legal commentator for a cable news network, who has become frustrated and angry with Chicago's murder rate and corruption. Pierce's character decides to run for office in an effort to actually do something about the situation.
"We couldn't be more thrilled and flattered that David's making The Good Wife his first TV role since 'Frasier,'" Robert and Michelle King, series showrunners and executive producers, said in a statement. "We're tremendous fans of his dramatic skills as well as his comedy."
Pierce is an Emmy and Tony award-winning actor, who has appeared in Frasier, The Powers That Be, Sleepless in Seattle and the Broadway plays Curtains and Monty Python's Spamalot. He will be making his Broadway directorial debut next spring with It Shoulda Been You.
As previously reported, True Blood alum Carrie Preston will also be appearing on the sixth season of The Good Wife where she will reprise her role as Elsbeth Tascioni. At the moment she is only slated to appear in one episode, but could return for more.
The Good Wife will return to CBS on Sept. 21.
