A friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev plead not guilty to gun and drug charges in federal court on Wednesday.
According to Boston.com, Stephen Silva was charged with trafficking heroin and possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number. The 21-year-old is accused of allegedly providing the gun that killed Massachusetts Institute of Technology officer Sean Collier.
The MIT policeman was gunned down during a manhunt for the Tsarnaev brothers that occurred in the wake of the bombings. The eldest brother, Tameraln, was killed after a shootout with police. His younger brother was later found and taken into custody where he is awaiting trial.
The Associated Press noted that Silva did not seek bail and waived his right to a detention hearing. He faces 40 years in prison on the heroin charges alone. He is due back in court again on Oct. 8.
Three people were killed and more than 250 were injured in the April 15, 2013 bombings.
