American Licorice Company opened their doors in 1914 in Chicago, renting their work space and simply producing black licorice twists. They moved to a bigger space in the 1920's and brought the world "Snaps" candies in the 1930's. In the 1950's came the "fruitier" red licorice and the birth of "RED VINES" candies. Red licorice sales would eventually top black licorice sales and continued to evolve with new and improved candy options.
In the 1990's American Licorice Company merged with Ferrara Pan, Spangler, Goetze and NECCO to form the Candy Alliance LLC. In addition, American Licorice Company supports the "Kids In Need Association," which provides children the basic needs to facilitate learning; this is their third year donating backpacks. Today's "Fruit Vines Bites" bring us a convenient on the go version of our favorite traditional candies.
