Audiences will have the chance to see Ned Benson’s The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby in its entirety. A three-hour cut of the film (or films), titled The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him/Her, will be released on Oct. 10.
The film, an examination of a relationship from both the male and female perspectives starring Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, exists in several different forms. Indiewire explained that Benson originally wrote the film as a single script, but decided during filming to cut the story into a male-centric cut, subtitled Him and a female-centric cut, subtitled Her. The Him and Her versions both played at various festivals as two separate films. The Him/Her release will include both versions.
A shorter cut that combined the Him and Her versions, called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, was the version that was taken to Cannes. According to Deadline, the Them version received a 10-minute standing ovation.
The Them version will play in a limited release starting Sept. 12.
William Hurt, Bill Hader, Viola Davis and Ciaran Hinds co-star with McAvoy and Chastain.
