Greg Poehler’s 10 episode Thursday night comedy Welcome to Sweden has been renewed by NBC.
The show, as noted by Broadway World, was based on Poehler’s life and features Poehler, Josephine Bornebusch of the Swedish drama Solsidan, Lena Olin, Claes Mansson, Christopher Wagelin and Per Svensson.
Poehler plays a New York money manager for Hollywood stars named Bruce Evans, who is in a relationship with Emma Wiik, played by Bornebusch. When Emma gets an offer to accept a prestigious banking job in Stockholm, she decides to return to her home, and is shocked to find that Bruce agrees to move with her. Despite his good intentions, however, Bruce has to learn how to deal with Sweden’s unique culture, as well as Emma’s family – including her parents Viveka (Lena Olin, Chocolat) and Birger (Claes Månsson), and her two brothers, the slacker Gustav (Christopher Wagelin) and movie nut Bengt (Per Svensson)– that Emma and Bruce are forced to live with.
Broadway World notes that some more notable names, including Aubrey Plaza, Will Ferrell, Gene Simmons , and Poehler’s sister Amy Poehler, will make guest appearances as themselves.
According to Broadcasting and Cable, the show averaged a 0.8 live-plus-same day Nielsen rating among adults 18-49 since premiering in mid-July. The Ionia Sentinel Stardard notes that the show averaged 2.9 million viewers during its initial season.
The show is predominately shot in Stockholm, and is executively produced by both Greg and Amy Poehler, Pontus Edgren, Carrie Stein, and Frederick Arefalk.
