Disney said on Thursday that its total box office revenue for the year so far has just passed the $1 billion mark, thanks to the surprising success of Guardians of the Galaxy. The film broke the record for the best August debut ever last weekend and is looking forward to another strong week.

Since making $94.3 million over its opening weekend, the film has continued to stay strong, even in the middle of the week. TheWrap reports that it made $11.7 million on Monday, $11.9 million on Tuesday and $8.8 million yesterday. That means that it is up to $126.8 million in less than a week.

While the success of Guardians, Maleficent and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are the reasons for Disney’s $1 billion mark in North America, last year’s Frozen has helped the studio overseas.

According to Deadline, the studio reached $2 billion in foreign markets on Monday, with part of Frozen’s $1.27 billion international total included.

This is the fastest that the studio has reached $3 billion. In addition, Disney has reached $3 billion five years in a row.

The Winter Soldier finished with $713.7 million globally, while Maleficent ended with $732.4 million.
