The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder has posted a photo of himself in character as Damon Salvatore on the set of the hit show’s sixth season.
Somerhalder posted a photo of himself with his characteristic fangs and covered in costume blood as a teaser for fans of The Vampire Diaries. TVD fans from all over the world are eagerly awaiting the premiere of the CW show’s sixth season, so the on-set snap was a welcome surprise.
The show also stars Somerhalder’s ex, Nina Dobrev, and acting pal Paul Wesley. Somerhalder has shared the only on-set photo available for season 6. His character, Damon Salvatore appears to be returning to the show after sacrificing himself for Elena during season 5.

The 35-year-old actor captioned the photo “He’s back! #DamonSalvatore,” which has garnered a lot of excitement from fans of the longtime series.
CW has also released a teaser trailer for season 6! The show premieres on the CW on October 2.
Somerhalder has most recently been romantically linked with former Twilight Saga star Nikki Reed, who filed for divorce from Paul McDonald in May after 2 and a half years of marriage. The new couple has reportedly already moved in together.
