Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia are in talks to possibly join Gerard Butler in Warner Bros. and Skydance's Geostorm.
Should Sturgess sign on to the project, he would co-star alongside Butler as his character's estranged, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They must work together to try and stop a monstrous man-made storm. Butler would play a satellite designer who must go up into space to try and fix a climate-controlling satellite, which has malfunctioned.
Sturgess' character also uncovers a plot to assassinate the president. Cornish would play a Secret Service agent and Sturgess' girlfriend. Harris, who seems to be picking up multiple roles this week would be the Secretary of State. Garcia is being eyed for the role of the president.
Butler signed on to the project back in April. Dean Devlin, who wrote the script for Independence Day, is set to make his directorial debut with Geostorm.
Devlin also wrote the script, but Kieran and Michelle Mulroney also have contributed. David Ellison and Dana Goldberg are on board to produce, along with Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan.
Warner Bros., who stepped in when Paramount left, and Skydance are looking to start filming in October.
