Canadian group Magic! has also found success on the other side of the pond with “Rude,” which topped the U.K. singles chart. However, new albums were not able to beat Ed Sheeran’s X.
The Official Charts Company, which tracks U.K. music sales, said Monday that “Rude” was the top-selling single last week. According to the Independent, the song skyrocketed up the charts thanks to audio streams, which are now counted. The track, which appears on the Toronto-based group’s Don’t Kill The Magic, has racked up 1.4 million audio streams.
“Crazy Stupid Love” by Cheryl Cole and Tinie Tempah took second place. Ella Henderson, a former X Factor contender, stayed in the top five with “Ghost,” while Britain’s Got Talent’s Bars and Melody hit No. 5 with “Hopeful.”
Reuters notes that Sheeran’s sophomore album has notched a sixth week at No. 1 on the album chart. Blue Smoke - The Best Of by country legend Dolly Parton took No. 2, while The Breeze, Eric Clapton’s tribute to J.J. Cale, debuted at No. 3.
