Man busted for stealing claims his name is ‘Ima Thief’

A man in South Florida, who was busted for stealing, actually told cops and a judge that his name is ‘Ima Thief.’

According to NBC 6 Miami, a man who was arrested for stealing thousands of dollars of electronics from a store appeared in front of a judge and gave the court an unusual name.

When the man claimed that his name was ‘Ima Thief’ Broward County Judge John Fry kept a good sense of humor and laughed about it.

“I’m going to call you Mr. Ima,” Fry said.

Authorities said the man was stopped by security and arrested outside of a store for trying to make off with television sets and other items he did not pay for. Arresting officers said the man would only identify himself with the sarcastic name. He also said that he was 34-years-old, but at the time, cops weren't sure if they could believe that information either.

An arrest affidavit later revealed that his name and birth date were "fictitious and only provided in order for the subject to be processed at the Broward Sheriff’s Office jail.”

The New York Daily News noted that on Thursday, Judge Fry ordered that the man be held without bond on charges of grand theft, resisting arrest and a probation violation.
